Your society started in early 2006 an initiative which we call

The FESAus Data Standards and Best Practices Group

specifically to address perceived chronic data-related bottlenecks and other vexing problems facing petrophysicists.

Here we tell you briefly about our objectives, our principles, our mission, our group, and our actions, as well as what makes us different.

Our Mission

By formulating standards and recommendations to promote good data management and interpretation practices,
to become a reference of choice for petrophysicists and data owners, in Western Australia and everywhere.

Our Group

Our Group is led by a Steering Team of experienced geoscientists who all work with, evaluate, interpret and manage FE data on a daily basis.  In addition, a panel of industry specialists referred to as the Circle of Elders, in respectful recognition of our Western Australian origins, advises the Steering Team.   (In the Noongar society, the Circle of Elders is a group of experienced people who are seen by the community as the keepers of cultural wisdom and protectors of other significant assets.)
The Steering Team is currently composed of: Andrew Buffin, Ben Clennell, Jeff Haworth (DoIR), Jeff Roche, Martin Storey, and Mike Walker.  The Circle of Elders is composed of: Matt Biddle, Pia-Anna Charlebois, Scott Cole (Crocker Data Processing), Hugh Crocker, Bob Fisher, Zach John, Moussa Karolia, Tony Kennaird (Core Laboratories), Dinah Pantic and Jeremy Prosser

Our actions

Ours is a work in progress, currently on two distinct projects:

We are very conscious that these are ambitious targets, where others have tried and failed before, so we want to proceed assiduously, soliciting feedback and comments at every step.  We welcome your comments and suggestions - please write us.

Our difference

The FESAus Data Standards and Best Practices Group is a group not just for data users, but of data users, joining as individuals rather than representatives of any commercial entity.  The name of our Group reflects our interests.  Our objectives are not to compete, but to cooperate with other groups, institutions, and people with the same interests, contributing the "grassroots" view.
