Your society started in early 2006 an initiative which we call
The FESAus Data Standards and Best Practices Group
specifically to address perceived chronic data-related bottlenecks and other vexing problems facing petrophysicists.
First we set out to define our objectives, our principles, our mission, and our Group, acknowledging what makes us different.
The Group then initiated two different actions:
Work started in mid-2006, with 20 companies operating in Western Australia were invited to contribute to this project. The issues under consideration were as per the following list, and the plan was to review what procedures are currently in use in Western Australia, and, for each of the issues, to publish recommendations based on a judicious compilation of these procedures.
Well log naming conventions - work still on-going (end 2007)
Well / hole naming conventions: the work group submitted its recommendations to the Western Australia Department of Industry and Resources in June 2007. See them here.
Data procedures for core acquisition and core analysis - not yet.
